CAC Updates, Libraries

New Book Announcement

I am delighted to announce that I have signed a contract with Elsevier for my forthcoming book about positioning libraries for the 21st century. Designed for public and academic libraries—as well as library science students, educators, associations, and vendors—the book will provide actionable frameworks, practical tools, and real-world examples to strengthen libraries’ resilience, trust, and long-term relevance.

This book will address the complex realities facing libraries today—from political pressures to rapidly changing technologies and shifting community expectations. Drawing on 25 years of professional experience in libraries, and eight years of library consulting, I will explore how libraries can:

  • Remove hidden barriers that limit access and engagement.
  • Build communications strategies rooted in accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Prepare for and respond effectively to crises.
  • Balance advocacy and neutrality in politically and culturally divided times.
  • Move beyond “scarcity mindset” to achieve strategic, sustainable growth.

The manuscript is scheduled for completion in March 2026, with publication to follow through Elsevier’s production process.

Elsevier is a global leader in academic publishing, producing high-quality resources across disciplines, including library and information science. Their publishing program offers librarians, educators, and information professionals evidence-based strategies and practical tools to strengthen engagement, relevance, and sustainability in a rapidly changing world.

While I do not have a publication date, I will share updates as the project develops and look forward to engaging with readers and colleagues throughout this journey. In the meantime, check out my first book, Library Marketing and Communications: Strategies to Increase Relevance and Results, from ALA Editions!
