Reflecting Back on my Book

It was exactly four years ago today that I announced I was writing a book for ALA Editions. A year later, Library Marketing and Communications: Strategies to Increase Relevance and Results came out — in a very different world than the one I started writing in.

At the time of this announcement, I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me, but I was excited to take on the challenge.

Four years later, I am so proud to reflect back. Since it came out, the book has sold nearly 1,000 copies, with about 100 of those sold overseas. I have been honored to receive positive reviews, to have my book discussed by the Library Marketing & Communications Book Club, and to have it included in various curricula.

THANK YOU to everyone who has read the book, checked it out from a library, reviewed it, or referred it to a friend.

I often get asked, “When are you going to write another book?” The answer is, I don’t know! Since the book came out, I launched an online learning academy, created courses for library-serving other organizations, and started a Facebook Group. I have branched into strategic planning and other services. I have enough client work to keep me busy and to inspire me with new ideas and approaches.

There will probably be another book down the road, but right now, I’m really enjoying where I am. For now, not quite three years since it was released, I still think Library Marketing and Communications: Strategies to Increase Relevance and Results can be a great resource and thought-starter for library leaders.
