Social Media Inspiration for Libraries

I get asked fairly often if I have examples of good social media posts—usually from libraries trying to figure out what’s working, what’s not, and what they should be doing differently.

And I get it. Social media can feel like a constant demand for new ideas, without a lot of time to step back and think strategically about it.

Over time, I started saving examples—posts that made me stop and think, oh, that’s a smart way to do that. Sometimes it’s great storytelling, sometimes it’s just a really clear, simple post that works.

Eventually, I realized it would be more useful to put those in one place instead of digging through screenshots every time someone asked.

So I created a Padlet:

👉 CAC Social Media Examples Padlet

This is an evolving collection of social media examples, along with brief notes about what makes them effective. You’ll find things like:

  • Posts that do a great job of storytelling
  • Simple but effective program promotion
  • Creative use of visuals
  • Clear, engaging calls to action
  • Smart ways libraries are showing their value

Some are polished and strategic. Others are simple but work really well. That’s intentional—because not every post needs to be elaborate to be effective.

How to Use It

Think of this less as a “best practices guide” and more as a spark for your own ideas.

If you’re stuck on what to post, scroll through and ask:

  • What could we adapt for our community?
  • How are they framing this message differently?
  • What’s making this post feel engaging or clear?

You don’t need to copy anything directly. The goal is to help you see possibilities—and make social media feel a little less like starting from scratch every time.

I’ll Keep Adding to It

This isn’t a one-and-done resource. I’ll keep updating it as I come across strong examples, interesting trends, and smart approaches.

And if you see something great—whether it’s from your own library or another one—send it my way. I’d love to include it. Email me!

If social media sometimes feels like shouting into the void, you’re not alone. But there’s also a lot of really thoughtful, effective work happening across libraries—and we can all learn from each other.

This Padlet is one small way to make that learning a little easier.
