Libraries in the News

Periodically I like to share stories of libraries and other organizations doing a great job with marketing, communications, and community engagement. Here are two such stories.

This 8-year-old’s book is a hit at his library. He offers advice for aspiring authors
A boy is magically transported to the North Pole. He’s chased by a moose back to 1621, where he joins the first Thanksgiving celebration. Thus begins the plot of a recent addition to an Idaho library. But the book made its way onto the library’s shelves in an unusual way: the 8-year-old author secretly placed it on the shelf himself. To his surprise, people started checking it out and requesting it!

A Joy Of Reading, Sparked By A Special Librarian Determined To ‘Make A Difference’
A young reader and her father interview and thank a librarian who seemed to know exactly what she would love to read. “The librarian made me feel so special. She remembered my name, and my favorite thing was she gave me book recommendations,” she said. “When I was graduating college, I thought about how I was going to make a difference in the world. And I remembered my librarian, and I remembered that feeling that she gave me every single time I went to the library.”
